The Camera

It adds ten pounds, you know. And apparently bags under the eyes as well. Still, the piece that aired last Wednesday night on WVLT here in Knoxville turned out pretty good. Some folks asked me to post it here, so I’ve embedded it below. Click play to see the carnage as well as to hear about the contest I’m trying to win for charity.

Even if you’ve already voted for me, I hope you’ll click on the World’s Greatest Dad icon which appears below the video and do so again. (You’re allowed to vote once every twenty-four hours.) I’m dropping like a stone, so I could really use your help.

Again, if I win, I’ll donate the entire $2,000 first prize to ChildHelp, a fantastic organization which benefits the victims of child abuse and neglect. If you’re so inclined, you can help ChildHelp win that two grand by sharing this post with your network via one of the social media icon buttons which appear directly below the contest icon.

About john cave osborne

John Cave Osborne is a writer whose work has appeared on such sites as DisneyBaby, Babble, YahooShine, TLC and the Huffington Post. He was also referenced by Jezebel one time, but he’s pretty sure they were making fun of him. He and his wife, Caroline, live with their five children and spastic dog in Knoxville, TN. Nothing annoys him more than joke-heavy bios written in the third person, with the possible exception of Corey Feldman.

Of course, the rules said the video had to be under 3minutes, and yours is 4. So, get all the votes you want, buddy! You’re disqualified.

In terms of content, however, you’re a solid #2 behind my video from Atlanta. So, that must make you feel better. Like when Johnny Majors used to go for the tie.

        #1 — i love you, bra.
        #2 — you’re a dick.
        #3 — excuse him, y’all. he’s a good dude. it’s just that he’s a Bama fan.
#4 — i’m afraid the video has already been cleared by the contest officials. they told me that time was not a factor.
#5 — i will agree with you on one point, though — our videos are clearly the best 2. the one that is currently in the lead? it’s legitimately awful — only 30 seconds long and 15 of them are devoted to shamelessly informing the viewer how strapped for cash the contestant is.

I think that y’all are ready for another set of triplets. You make this look easy.

Thanks for sharing the interview with those of us outside of Knoxville. I think it is wonderful you will donate the winnings from The World’s Greatest Dad to WHEN you win. You get my vote every day and I keep posting for my FB friends to vote as well. Good luck!

I simply do not understand how the 2 videos in the lead were even considered. The 30 second one is just plain awful and the other one is cheesy. You got my vote again today. Good luck!

juli — the two other guys must have one heck of a network as they are clobbering me in total votes and i’ve got a decent little network, myself.

that said, the numbers suggest that my network’s growing a bit weary of this whole deal (as am i!), so i’m really glad that the voting ends on Fri. truth be told, i hadn’t even planned on entering the contest in the first place, but i received a DM from someone who works at the eZine asking me if i’d upload something. when i learned there was prize money, it was a no brainer to give it to charity, and that’s the main reason why i’ve pounded the table so hard on it.

TV exposure, i thought, would help. but though i loved the story and am so thankful that they ran it, they never once directed people to my blog as i (thought i had) asked. they said viewers could vote on their website, but that was not the case. sadly, there was ZERO noticeable spike in votes from the story.

anyway, with this post, i’m officially done pounding. the rules seem to indicate that when the voting period ends, the judges will have a say-so as well. who knows. there may be hope for me yet.

all that said, thank you so much for your votes. don’t stop! b/c the more i get, i believe, the better my chances. you’re the best, juli!

I will be keeping my fingers crossed. And in the event the judges don’t take more than just online voting into consideration and you do not win, I will still make a personal donation to

Very cool, man! Great exposure and yes, I just voted again. Send me a daily tweet reminder and I will never forget.

Very cool exposure for you. I voted again.

Oh, man! That was very very awesome. You speak well on camera. I don’t think I’d be that smooth even without the kids hanging on me! Well, done!
