Dooce, Mother’s Day, and HGTV

Okay, ready for this?

I was recently asked if I’d like to interview the one and only Dooce, then post that interview right here on my blog.

I know. Freaky.

It’s part of a promotional Mother’s Day blog tour sponsored by HGTV designed to draw attention to their recent association with the jogging bluggernaut the blogging juggernaut.

I’ll plan on posting my interview on Friday. I hope you’ll come by and check it out.

HGTV does, too, so they’ve asked me to give away some gifts they’ve been kind enough to provide (such as onesies and beach towels). All you have to do to qualify is leave a comment.

There are nine other bloggers who will also be featuring their interviews with Heather next week. Same deal there. Stop by, leave a comment and qualify for a prize.

Then, week after next, three commenters chosen at random from all ten blogs will win a Danby 8 bottle wine cooler.

To be completely candid? I got plenty of beach towels. And the trips are a little big for onesies. But I’d be super-down with rockin’ a Danby, and I bet you’d be, too. I really hope one of my readers is among the three who win one!

I’m excited to get the chance to go back and forth with Heather. There is, however, one small problem. I have to come up with ten questions to ask her, and I’m stuck.

On number one.

So I’m asking you for help. Please leave a comment telling me something you’d like to ask Dooce. I’ll let you know if your question is one of the ten I end up going with.

Thanks, and have a great weekend.

well….i had to google “dooce” to figure out who she is…but i got it now. i think the best question i can come up with is “why her?” You have triplets and a step daughter, which brings more stories than a blog (and book) could hold….but having 2 kids, singletons at that ;)….what makes her so interesting…especially so interesting that she can be a “professional” blogger…not just one who does it when they have a free minute like most of us!

    Have fun!!!

ps i need beach towels….and would put the wine cooler to VERY good use!!=)

Good Lord I’m jealous. Dooce makes my little heart go pitter pat.

It would be interesting to get her take on how Dad Bloggers are growing in influence online. Since she has perspective on how the Mom Blogger community has grown over the years, it would be neat to hear her thoughts on the future of the Dad Blogger community.

I’d also like to know if she has ever run out of ideas for dressing up her dogs. Seems like she photographs them in a new outfit every day.

Good luck with the interview. This is almost as cool as your @AplusK moment. What’s next? Oprah?

    I hope your interview goes swimmingly . . .

    My question?

How does Dooce find time to be a wife, mother and a “blogging juggernaut?” What has she given up to be a blogger extraordinaire? What has she gained?

And I’ll shut up now. The former journalist in me just started revving up. Sorry.

    Wow…that should be interesting.

I think you should ask her how she would/does respond to the old “wow, your hands are full” comments.

Oh, and maybe ask her what she thinks about the new bill in Arizona. You know, just because that’s good and controversial.

  • http://crazy-sahm.blogspot.com crazysahm

Awesome! I love your blog and dooce’s :)

    I would ask her:

“What is one regret you have since you have started blogging as your career?”

Gotta tell you, not a huge fan of Dooce’s blog. But cool you scored the ability to do a 10 question interview.

Ask her how she struck up an association with HGTV.

What about life before children does she miss the most?

Hmm, also had to check out what a Danby was. I don’t think I spend enough time online. 😉 I will definitely come back as that is sort of cool.

That’s incredible!! Dooce was one of the first blogs I read (outside of friends). My hubby and I still quote one of our favorite posts…about her beautiful burrito! (ok…as I re-read that, it sounds really bad…)

    John,

Cool gig! Dooce says she and Jon are totally screwed now that Marlo’s mobile. Those of us who had THREE little ones go mobile at once can only chuckle at that.

I’d like to know what she’d do if Marlo had been triplets. I would LOVE to read her reaction to getting that news.

Oh, and how about a question about Daddy bloggers? Why are Daddy bloggers better than Mommy bloggers? That ought to be something she doesn’t get all the time!

    Can’t wait to read it.

I’ll definitely second the asking her how she got the HGTV gig and what she thinks of Daddy bloggers. If I recall, her husband is some sort of SAHD/hybrid type (like me) so I’d like to hear more about what he does.

Also, ask her how and where she draws the line between sharing her life and protecting her children.

Congrats on the contact, that’s great :)

I agree with the posse on this one. She should be interviewing YOU. I never even heard of her until she kind of got dissed on your other intewview. teeheehee…. ask her how she felt about getting dissed by the dad bloggers who apparently multitask much better than she does! right? Congrats though!

@jack, susy, and pegbur7 — you know, you’re right. she should be interviewing me. unbelievably, HGTV disagreed!

@kara — i didn’t know who dooce was til this past November, so you’re not alone. and don’t worry, i do plan on asking her one question pertaining to multiples.

@dan (dadlogic) great idea for sure! i will ask her a question pertaining to her perception of dadbloggers and what she feels will unfold for them in the future.

@surprisedmom — you nailed it. i’m gonna ask her that question almost verbatim

@chris — dad revolution, brother! (don’t blame you one bit for having nothing!)

@krystyn — i LOVE the idea about the AZ bill — the one about illegal immigrants, correct?

@surfer jay — i agree that the interview should be light, irreverent, and funny. i’m gonna give her a few softballs at the end, but i’m prolly gonna ask her a tough question or two.

@DC urban dad — you and surprised mom are right on the money!

@nicki — my email to you pretty much said it all. you rock, and i hope you win the wine refrigerator.

@barbara — beautiful burrito, huh? um, maybe YOU wanna interview her? :-)

@christy — those of us w/ multiples? we all find it a little funny when we hear people lament about how hard it is to keep up with A toddler, don’t we?

@dad is in the house — great idea. i think a question about jon is in good order.

thanks y’all. i hope you’ll come back and comment. that danby 8 bottle wine fridge is a pretty solid prize. i hope that one of the three winners of that come from this blog.

I would love to know if she misses anything about being a blogger with a smaller audience, or if everything she has experienced has been a blessing. Also, if you could just let her know that I’m still holding out for my free Mary Kay.

    Hey John,

If I were to interview Dooce, here’s my top 10 list of questions. Good luck with the interview.

    1. The story goes that you came up with the word Dooce because of your inability to spell Dude while instant messaging with a coworker. Have you invented any other words? I’ve certainly invented a few words while blogging drunk, or sleep deprived.

    2. How did your family react when they learned you had become the clue to a question on Jeopardy?

    3. Chuck continues to be a good sport for your daily photos. Have there been any outfits he has refused to wear? Do you ever struggle to find a new wardrobe option for him every day?

    4. Your husband, Jon, has been writing his blurbomat blog for several years, but typically covers a variety of topics (usually seems to be whatever is on his mind). Has Jon considered following your approach and writing a blog focused on issues that impact men/dads?

    5. You recently took part in a White House conference to discuss the President’s health care reform work. Have you considered becoming involved or lending your voice with any other causes that impact working families?

    6. Most would say that working from home is great because it gives you more time to spend with the family. But I’d imagine that lately it has become increasingly tough to balance your personal and professional commitments. What adjustments have you made so that you can still spend quality time with the family but meet your growing list of business obligations?

    7. As the woman/mom community continues to grow in online influence, many have begun to speculate if the same will happen with man/dad bloggers. What are your thoughts on the future of the dad blogger community?

    8. Parent bloggers continue to grab the attention of marketers who are eager to tap into this new community of influencers. Considering that your Twitter exchange with Whirlpool has become a case study in how bloggers can impact a company’s brand, what are your thoughts on how parents can appropriately use social media to share their feedback with large companies?

    9. Speaking of which, have you heard any updates on when the couch might arrive for your sister’s basement? Have you considered talking about it more on Twitter or on your blog to hopefully motivate the company to deliver the promised furniture (similar to the Whirlpool situation)?

    10. Has the new job with HGTV given you the itch to remodel or redecorate your entire home? What remodeling projects are on your list?

I have already told you I don’t know this Dooce. I came by here to see if I could get some insight. Now I jsut feel dumb because I am the only person left out in the dark. I have decided if I have made it this long then I will continue on with life sans Dooce and avoid the temptation to check her out. It sounds like a great gig for you though. Congrats.
